"Who can know the heart of youth but youth itself"
Patti Smith, Just Kids
"Les insouciants" (the reckless) is a series of portraits of young adults photographed in their bedrooms or flats. For 4 years, I’ve been going to the homes of friends, acquaintances and people I’ve met through the project itself. My intention was to show them as they really are, in their intimate space, forged in their image, where they can express themselves freely. This work is a tribute to youth, to individuality, to diversity and to difference. In this project I didn’t want to differentiate between gender, sexuality or social class, with the aim of showing a youth that is both universal and singular. In a world torn apart, where inequality and discrimination remains, I felt it was vital to show a youth beyond the divisions that are constantly imposed on our society. These young people have been photographed in cities where I have lived or visited with the purpose of reaching out to people around the world.
